Tackling Food Poverty
Tackling Food Poverty for a Healthier Community
Wealden Food Partnership is committed to ensuring that everyone in our community has access to nutritious and affordable food. By working with local organisations and supporting innovative projects, we’re helping to reduce food poverty and build a more secure and resilient food system.
Supporting Food Banks, Community Fridges and Pantries
We collaborate with food banks, community fridges, pantries, and other local initiatives to provide reliable access to healthy food for those in need. By connecting surplus food providers with these essential services, we help reduce food waste while ensuring that surplus food reaches people who can benefit from it.
Distributing Small Grants to Local Initiatives
Through the Household Support Fund, we distribute small grants to organisations working to combat food poverty and improve food security. These grants help fund projects that provide immediate support to families in need, such as foodbanks, school holiday programmes, and educational initiatives focused on healthy eating. By empowering local groups to continue their vital work, we help create a network of support for those experiencing food insecurity.
Promoting Food Education and Skills
Food poverty isn’t just about access to food; it’s also about the knowledge and skills to make the most of what’s available. We support and promote workshops and programmes that teach essential cooking skills, meal planning, and budgeting. These initiatives empower individuals and families to prepare nutritious, affordable meals, even on a tight budget. By promoting food education, we aim to build long-term resilience and independence in our community.
Reducing Food Waste and Sharing Surplus
Wealden Food Partnership works with local businesses, farms, and organisations to reduce food waste and redirect surplus food to those most need it. This includes supporting composting projects, facilitating food surplus distribution, and raising awareness about the importance of reducing food waste at all levels. By creating a network of local food providers and community services, we ensure that no edible food goes to waste while supporting those facing food poverty.
Join Us in the Fight Against Food Poverty
We believe that everyone has a role to play in tackling food poverty. Whether you’re an individual looking to volunteer, an organisation interested in receiving a grant, or a business wanting to donate surplus food, your involvement can make a difference. Together, we can ensure that everyone in Wealden can access the food they need to thrive.
