Community Chef - Good Food For All CIC
Community Chef is an award winning social enterprise that uses food and cookery as tools for developing communities while improving people’s health and wellbeing. Established in 2001, and in that time we have supported tens of thousands of people to cook and eat good food while improving their health and wellbeing. We have worked in communities across the country and helped hundreds of organisations and businesses to set up their own food, cookery and wellbeing projects.
We have several strands to our work:
1. EDUCATION AND HEALTH PROMOTION: We deliver portfolio of frontline community and workplace programs, running courses and workshops for organisations, businesses and specific groups such as carers, refugees, isolated and vulnerable men, people with mental health challenges and people experiencing food poverty. These are always free for the participants who learn, cook and eat together. They are funded by grants, commissions and our social enterprise profit. We run these in house and as an outreach service.
2. TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING: We support organisations, businesses and individuals at a strategic and capacity building level. In order to ensure that our work has a wider impact and deeper legacy, we develop programmes and run training for people, projects and businesses who want to set up their own cookery focussed health and wellbeing initiatives. We have trained over 2800 cookery leaders across the UK who have gone on to support hundreds of thousands of people.
3. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – building community is at the heart of what we offer. We have developed a winning formula for helping communities and individuals to work together and look after themselves. Cooking and eating together is a simple and effective way of connecting with other people. It helps individuals, families, communities and co-workers to be healthier and resilient. All of our programmes have progression opportunities and we encourage volunteering and community action.
